Voter information theft case: Two arrested; 12 particular groups shaped for investigation

The police on Saturday arrested two individuals belonging to an NGO within the case referring to the alleged voters’ information theft, whereas as many as 12 particular groups have been shaped to probe the case.

On Saturday, a number of workplaces and homes belonging to Chilume Instructional Cultural and Rural Growth Belief, the NGO, had been raided. The police seized paperwork and digital devices pertaining to their work for additional investigation.

The belief, permitted by the BBMP to do house-to-house voter consciousness marketing campaign, is accused of amassing voter information illegally. Staff of the belief collected information from voters in Bengaluru posing as booth-level officers, it’s alleged. The BBMP in early November cancelled permission granted to the NGO, following complaints. The Congress has accused the BJP of being complicit on this “scam”, whereas the latter has denied the allegations.

Prime accused on the run

“While, the two persons, identified as Dharmesh and Renuka Prasad, have been taken into police custody, the prime accused in the case are still on the run. Efforts are on to track them down,” Srinivas Gowda, DCP, Central Division, mentioned.

Mr. Gowda mentioned that the main target of the investigation can be on what kind of information was collected and for whom. The opposite members of the belief had been summoned for questioning, he added .

“A detailed probe has been ordered into the case. Even though the Opposition is demanding a judicial probe, the police are capable of handling this,” House Minister Araga Jnanendra mentioned.

In the meantime Congress leaders referred to as on Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Meena and submitted a petition alleging “large-scale electoral fraud, malpractice, and manipulation of voters’ list” in Bengaluru by the BJP authorities and demanded a probe beneath the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Excessive Court docket of Karnataka. BJP leaders too met the CEO and termed the Congress’ demand “baseless and politically motivated”.
